#DeathToTheOldYou Divorce Party

In 2019, Tia secretly got married. For 2020, she planned a wedding that obviously got postponed. She postponed it once to 2021 but felt it still wasn't safe. She postponed it twice to 2022, but then she decided to call off the wedding and get a divorce. Since she was stuck with a big, non-refundable event, she threw herself a divorce party!

When Tia thinks of the opposite of a wedding, she thinks of a funeral, so she asked her guests to wear all black, and she themed the party "Death to the Old You.” When she called off her marriage, she turned 30 and had a mental breakdown: she realized she was making life choices that she assumed other people expected of her–not focusing on what she wanted. #DeathToTheOldYou is a vibe: it’s ok to restart your life as needed, especially when you need to focus on your own happiness.

Invitation Design

Tia loves crafting designs and color palettes for each event. Her #DeathToTheOldYou party included spooky skulls and florals to mimic a funeral, but they were cute to note this event as a fun and positive change in her life. She also used lavender because she reused materials from her postponed wedding, which included lavender florals.

Activity Creation

If you’d like an interactive event, Tia can plan activity stations: plan the content, write clear directions, and provide themed signage. At her #DeathToTheOldYou party, she had a “Tattoo Yourself Like Tia” station, a photo printing station, activity cards, and more. For the activity cards, she wanted people to share their opinions of the night and interact with one another. It was a silly feature that everyone enjoyed.

Menu Planning

Tia’s #DeathToTheOldYou party featured her favorite foods and drinks: a mashed potato bar served in martini glasses, a gelato cart, and a signature drink called a Tia Sunrise (which included apple-mango soju, white rum, pineapple juice, and grenadine). From dietary restrictions to personal preferences, Tia is happy to work with your caterer to find a menu that you love.

Decor Design, Purchasing, and Creation

As a second-generation American, Tia grew up with frugal and innovative immigrant family members. For her cancelled wedding, her mother put together bouquets and began floral arrangements. Tia continued the unfinished project, and Tia also crafted more decor. For example, she painted the D-E-A-T-H panels, and she purchased all of the tattoos for the “Tattoo Yourself like Tia” station. Let Tia work with you to find your vendors and create your dream decor.
